Franco Pacenti

Franco Pacenti

Three generations linked by the passion for the Sangiovese grape and its wines. So can best describe the operating philosophy of the family estate Franco Pacenti from Montalcino in Tuscany. As early as 1962, the founder Rosoldi Pacenti was one of the first to believe in the great potential of the Sangiovese grape. Together with 24 other winegrowers, he was one of the founding fathers of the "Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino" Foundation in 1967.

With the same passion, son Franco followed him into the vineyards and the cellar in the early 1980s following his successful oenological studies. Since the beginning of the new millennium, Franco Pacenti has been able to devote his full attention to work in the vineyard and in the cellar. After all, he is actively supported by his two daughters Lisa and Serena as well as son Lorenzo in all aspects of the business.

Altogether, the 10ha vineyards of the Pacenti family spread over six plots and extend at the foot of the hill of Montalcino in the immediate vicinity of the winery. All plots were planted from 1980 to 2002 exclusively with Sangiovese Grosso, a particularly high-quality clone of Sangiovese.

Stylistically, the Brunello area falls in a northern and a southern part. Located in the southern part, with a tendency to higher clay content in the soil, Franco's plants offer the best conditions for fully ripe grapes. In addition, the wines here show an earlier drinking maturity.

In addition to the soil conditions, the climate is a more important factor for the special character of the wines. Around the city of Montalcino, about 110 kilometres south of Florence, there is a drier climate than in other areas of Tuscany. In addition, a cool sea breeze from the southwest ensures good ventilation of the vineyards, as well as for nocturnal cooling. Therefore, the Sangiovese grape here reaches its highest maturity and produces fuller, richer wines than other places in Tuscany.
