In Piedmont, one of Italy’s most historic wine regions, the love of agriculture—and viticulture in particular—has been passed down through generations like a cherished heirloom. This deep-rooted tradition has given rise to wines of global renown, none more iconic than Barolo, rightly celebrated as the “King of Wines.”
The Fenocchio family has embodied this passion for five generations. The estate in its current form was shaped by Giacomo Fenocchio, whose sons, Albino and Claudio, now carry forward his legacy with dedication and reverence for tradition. Their winery, Azienda Agricola Giacomo Fenocchio, is nestled in the commune of Monforte d’Alba, one of the most prestigious areas within the DOCG Barolo zone—at the very heart of Nebbiolo cultivation.
The brothers vinify exclusively grapes from their own vineyards, which span approximately 14 hectares and include some of the region’s most celebrated crus: Bussia, Cannubi, Villero, and Castellero. Each of these plots possesses its own distinct character—from mineral-rich soils to ideal sun exposure—yet they share a common trait: a unique microclimate that fosters wines of remarkable depth, elegance, and complexity.
What sets Fenocchio’s wines apart is their unwavering commitment to traditional winemaking. Fermentations last up to 40 days on the skins, followed by ageing in large Slavonian oak casks ranging from 30 to 50 hectolitres. The wines are then matured over several years, allowing them to develop naturally and gracefully. Barriques and modern interventions are deliberately avoided. Instead, the resulting Barolos are bold, expressive, and true to their terroir—wines of authenticity and longevity.
Though the estate does not hold an official organic certification, Claudio Fenocchio places great emphasis on sustainable viticulture. The avoidance of chemical treatments and the careful stewardship of the land are not marketing gestures, but reflections of a deeply held philosophy: wine should speak the language of nature—honest, pure, and unadulterated.
From the hills of Monforte d’Alba emerge wines that not only honour the esteemed reputation of their origin but also carry the soul of a family-run estate devoted to one guiding principle: authenticity in every bottle.
