The Valerio Zenato estate – now known as Le Morette – is nestled on a slender strip of land between the southern shores of Lake Garda and the protected waters of Lake Frassino. This unique location, set within a significant European natural landscape, offers an ideal microclimate for cultivating vines and olive trees. The interplay of mineral-rich soils, gentle temperatures and proximity to two lakes creates a terroir of remarkable character and quality.
The winery’s name and emblem are inspired by the Morette, or tufted duck – the most common bird species found at Lake Frassino. Chosen as a symbol of the estate’s deep connection to its surroundings, the Morette embodies respect for nature and a commitment to harmony between humanity and the environment. Sustainability, biodiversity and the preservation of ecological balance are central pillars of Le Morette’s philosophy.
The roots of viticulture in this region trace back to the Etruscans – the earliest connoisseurs of Italian winemaking, vinification and sensory refinement. Historical records suggest that the Etruscans revered the Morette as a sacred creature. With profound cultural awareness and a dedication to producing wines of exceptional quality, they laid the foundations for a winemaking tradition that endures to this day.
Today, this legacy is carried forward with passion by Fabio and Paolo Zenato. Through Le Morette, they represent a new generation of Italian winemakers, blending experience, innovation and sustainability in perfect harmony. Their wines – whether Lugana, Bardolino or Rosé – capture the essence of Lake Garda: authentic, elegant and full of expressive character.
