"An Ancient Fiefdom in an Oasis of Tranquillity and Primal Energy"

Nestled within Sicily’s rugged, unspoiled landscape lies an oasis of rare beauty – a place where the island’s most noble indigenous grape varieties flourish, and the famed Nero d’Avola finds its home. This estate spans across an ancient manor once belonging to the Princes of Butera. In one of Sicily’s most mineral-rich regions, not far from the Mediterranean coast and set between the Valley of the Temples and Piazza Armerina, a unique enchantment unfolds. The diversity and biological richness of the soils, combined with a distinctive microclimate influenced by the sea breezes, make this ancient land an ideal haven for sustainable viticulture and an exceptional sanctuary of biodiversity. Amidst the vivid hues of citrus groves and the intense fragrances of Mediterranean scrub, elegant wines are crafted here, offering a beguiling array of aromas marked by both intensity and freshness.

"Principi di Butera Embraces the Diversity, Stability, and Flexibility of Natural Ecosystems."

By employing green manure – a traditional agricultural practice that enriches the soil with carefully selected plants – Principi di Butera enhances soil fertility and ensures its sustainable preservation. Across the estate, herbicides are completely avoided, with all fertilisers sourced exclusively from organic materials. To protect the vineyards naturally from the grapevine moth, the winemakers at Principi di Butera use the technique of mating disruption, which deploys natural pheromones as a form of pest control. Additionally, organic protective methods are employed, utilising live organisms to limit the spread of vineyard pests.

"Even the Vine Occasionally Needs Emergency Irrigation."

The Principi di Butera estate has an exceptionally efficient rainwater collection system that fills a specially designed cistern, ensuring a reliable water supply during dry spells. This system allows for highly targeted water usage, which can be adjusted according to weather forecasts. Specialised pressure chambers precisely monitor the moisture levels of each individual vine, ensuring that irrigation is only applied when truly necessary. In this way, each vine receives water precisely when it needs it most – a valuable approach for promoting healthy growth and sustainable water use.
