The wonderful holiday island of Sardinia has a vineyard area of about 43000 hectares. The southern location in the Mediterranean ensures ample sunshine. Nevertheless, it is not easy to cultivate wine here. Because especially on the south coast there is often an extreme drought, so often an artificial irrigation is required. New vineyards are also often applied in the lee of mountains or tall trees, what do not facilitate the work with them.
Nevertheless, Sardinia offers a remarkable variety of wines. Because the temperatures in the various regions are very different.
In cooler north of the island rather fresh and fruity white wines are made with a nice acidity and a wonderful bouquet. The warm south and west side, however, provides ideal conditions for red wines.
