FESTIVAL Blauburgunder Südtirol DOC 2023 (3 bottles)
Description
"Festival" Blauburgunder Südtirol DOC 2023 / Cantina Merano / South-Tirol
Container of 3 bottles
Red wine from Italy
The “Festival” Pinot Noir Alto Adige DOC 2023 from the esteemed Cantina Merano is a wine of striking character – a harmonious blend of alpine finesse and Burgundian depth. Offered here as a set of three 0.75L bottles, it’s ideal for collectors, connoisseurs, or as a refined gift.
Founded in 2010 through the merger of two historic cooperatives in the Burggrafenamt district, Merano Winery now unites around 380 growers cultivating 260 hectares of vineyards stretching from Lana to Merano and into the Vinschgau valley. This union has ushered in a new era for South Tyrolean viticulture.
Grown at altitudes between 500 and 650 metres, the Pinot Noir vines thrive in light, well-drained moraine soils. With an average age of 10 to 20 years, the vines yield grapes of remarkable aromatic complexity. Harvesting is done exclusively by hand, followed by a ten-day maceration and fermentation under controlled temperatures. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and matures in used barriques and small oak casks, gaining depth, subtle spice and a refined tannic structure.
In the glass, it gleams ruby red with garnet highlights. The bouquet is layered and elegant: redcurrants, wild strawberries and sour cherries mingle with floral notes of violets and rose petals, underscored by hints of white pepper, cedar and forest floor. On the palate, it’s juicy and precise, with silky tannins, vibrant acidity and a mineral backbone. The finish is long, smooth and delicately spiced.
Best served at around 16°C, this Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with game dishes such as venison, wild boar or duck, as well as tender meats like milk-fed lamb or rabbit. Roasts of pork and beef complement its depth, while mushroom-based dishes and refined starters highlight its aromatic finesse. Mild cheeses such as Taleggio or Reblochon round off the experience, and its fine tannins even harmonise surprisingly well with grilled salmon or tuna tataki.
Stored in cool, dark and vibration-free conditions, the wine offers ageing potential of three to four years. Over time, it develops tertiary aromas of dried herbs, woodland and delicate spice, adding complexity without overshadowing its fruit-driven core.
This 3-bottle set of the “Festival” Pinot Noir Alto Adige DOC 2023 is more than just wine – it’s a tribute to terroir, craftsmanship and a deep-rooted passion for quality and character.

Grape variety
PINOT NOIR
Pinot Noir, known internationally as one of the oldest and most esteemed grape varieties in the world, has its roots in Burgundy, France. This region has been renowned for its high-quality wines for centuries. As early as the first century, Pliny the Elder described the "Vitis Allobrogica," considered a possible predecessor of Pinot Noir. During the Middle Ages, Cistercian monks brought the grape from Burgundy to other parts of Europe. In the 18th century, it was planted in northern Italy, though initially, it lacked the ideal growing conditions. Mid-19th century, Pinot Noir saw a breakthrough in South Tyrol, significantly influenced by Edmund Mach, the director of the viticulture institute in St. Michael an der Etsch. Today, Pinot Noir is indispensable in South Tyrol, covering about 260 hectares of cultivation area, making it a prominent red wine variety in the region. The wines are known for their elegance and quality and have gained international acclaim. The robust Pinot Noir vine develops strong woody tissues over the years and has slender greenish-reddish shoots. Its pentagonal to round leaves are vividly green in spring and summer, turning golden brown in autumn. The slightly hairy and rough leaf surface is characteristic of the variety. Pinot Noir's compact bunches consist of many small, dark blue to black berries with thin skins and high juice content. The berries’ taste is sweet and juicy, offering an excellent balance of acidity and sugar. The flowering period of Pinot Noir is typically in June, with the grapes usually ripening from late summer to autumn, thriving in South Tyrol's specific climatic conditions.
