The Fosso Corno winery extends over thirty hectares in a single area on a hill near Roseto degli Abruzzi in the central Italian province of Teramo between the port cities of Ancona and Pescara. Standing in the vineyard, one can admire the beautiful Adriatic Sea to the east, while the imposing Gran Sasso massif rises from the hilly landscape to the west. This area, famous for its wines, is characterized by a unique natural location that is almost perfect for viticulture. The growing interest in Montepulciano wine in the nineties of the twentieth century prompted the Biscardo family to buy the Fosso Corno winery in 2001. Since then, the family has endeavoured to produce a very high-quality wine, which means that great efforts are required in the care of the vineyards and the careful use of agronomic experiments.

The Montepulciano is a red grape variety. The wines made from the grapes of this grape variety are intensely colored, down-to-earth to finely spicy and strong to high in alcohol. Although they can be stored well, they also taste very good when young. The grape variety Montepulciano, which is only grown in Abruzzo (only here it can be legally grown!!!) has nothing to do with the Tuscan town of Montepulciano. The wine grown here, while also delicious, is made from a Sangiovese grape.

Originally, the name of this wine comes from the high peak of the imposing Gran Sasso Mountain, also called “Corno Grande” (i.e. big horn). The “Il Grande” is made with 100% selected Montepulciano grapes from the Fosso Corno winery in Roseto Degli Abruzzi. With Il Grande, the Fosso Corno winery wants to produce a wine with great structure and fine elegance.

After the manual harvest, the Montepulciano grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks for fourteen days with skin contact. In December - after the first fermentation - the "Il Grande" is fermented a second time on dried Montepulciano grapes. This second fermentation, the so-called "Rigoverno" gives the Il Grande Silenzio Colline Teramane Montepulciano D'Abruzzo DOCG its special structure and elegance. The wine is then refined for twelve months in 500 liter French oak barrels. And after another bottle aging of at least two to three months, this wonderful red wine is released for the market.

First of all, the "Il Grande Silenzio" Colline Teramane Montepulciano D'Abruzzo DOCG from Fosso Corno pleases the eye with an intense ruby red. Its multi-faceted bouquet is soft and full, and the scent is reminiscent of plums and liquorice. “Il Grande Silenzio” is a dry, warm, round, and velvety red wine. Its full body gives it a unique personality.

So that this wine, highly praised by many wine critics, can unfold its full aroma, it should be decanted about an hour before consumption. At a recommended drinking temperature of 16 to 18°C, the "Il Grande Silenzio" Montepulciano from Fosso Corno is an excellent accompaniment to pasta dishes with meat sauces and classic lasagne. Also excellent with boiled and roasted meats, roasts, game, and spicy mature cheeses. All in all, an extraordinary wine that can also inspire quite well without the accompaniment of food.

MONTEPULCIANO is a red grape. The wine produced from grapes of this variety are vividly coloured, traditional to fine-spicy and strong in alcohol content. Although they are easy to store, but also taste young very good.

The varietal Montepulciano, which is grown only in the Abruzzo (must be!) has nothing to do with the Tuscan town of Montepulciano. Although the cultivated wine here is also delicious, but is made of the Sangiovese grape.
