Description

Lambrusco Grasparossa Amabile - Tradizione Settecani DOP / Cantina Settecani / Emilia Romagna

Red wine from Italy

The Cantina Settecani, founded in 1923, is among the most historic wine cooperatives of Emilia-Romagna and has established itself as one of the leading names in fine Lambrusco. Situated in the hamlet of Settecani, nestled between Castelvetro, Castelnuovo Rangone and Spilamberto, it lies at the very heart of the renowned DOC Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro. From its original 48 founding members, the Cantina has grown into a strong community of around 200 associates, who cultivate their vineyards with the utmost care and in close collaboration with the estate’s agronomist to ensure grapes of the highest quality. Managed in the spirit of a family enterprise, the Cantina places tradition and quality at the centre of its philosophy – values that are reflected in every wine and bring the rich heritage of the region vividly to life.

Lambrusco Grasparossa, a distinctive member of the Lambrusco family, has been deeply rooted in the culture of Emilia-Romagna for centuries. Its origins reach back to the Middle Ages, when monastic communities are thought to have played a role in preserving the variety. Once regarded as a simple table wine, Lambrusco has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent decades, achieving new standards of excellence. Today it is prized for its diversity, its fresh style and its characteristic aromatic profile. The Grasparossa variety thrives on the gentle hills of the region, where clay and limestone soils provide balanced minerality and lend the wines their deep colour and vibrant fruit.

The grapes for Lambrusco Grasparossa Amabile Tradizione Settecani DOP are trained according to the Guyot system, which encourages precise fruit development and facilitates vineyard care. Harvest begins in late September, with careful selection of the fruit before the must undergoes its first fermentation in stainless steel. A second fermentation follows in pressurised tanks using the Charmat method, preserving the primary aromas of fruit and flowers while creating the wine’s fine sparkle. Fermentation is deliberately halted to retain part of the natural sugar, resulting in the typical Amabile style with its gentle sweetness and lively freshness. Bottling under pressure ensures lasting effervescence and secures the wine’s authentic expression of origin.

In the glass, Lambrusco Grasparossa Amabile reveals a vivid garnet hue. Its bouquet is marked by floral notes, particularly violet, complemented by red berry and raspberry accents. On the palate it achieves a harmonious balance of sweetness and freshness, with the fruit intensity supported by fine tannins and a lively acidity. The delicate mousse lends lightness and elegance, while subtle hints of dark chocolate and spice add aromatic depth.

Served at 10 to 12 °C, the wine unfolds its full character and proves a versatile companion to Italian cuisine. It pairs beautifully with antipasti such as prosciutto, salami, olives and cheeses, and is equally at home alongside pizza, pasta and lasagne. Grilled meats, spiced sausages and poultry dishes are enhanced by its freshness, as are pork fillet, turkey and tomato-based recipes such as caprese or soups. The wine also complements not overly sweet desserts, including fruit tiramisu or berries with mascarpone, and shines with lighter summer fare like salads or grilled vegetables. Care should be taken that dishes are not overly seasoned, allowing the wine’s subtle aromas to be fully appreciated.

Lambrusco Grasparossa Amabile Tradizione Settecani DOP unites the long tradition of the Cantina with the distinctive character of the variety, presenting itself as an authentic expression of its terroir. It is a wine that elegantly combines history, place and pleasure, delighting both connoisseurs and lovers of Italian lifestyle alike.

Grape variety

LAMBRUSCO GRASPAROSSA

The Lambrusco Grasparossa, a red grape variety and a member of the Lambrusco grape family, is primarily native to the northern Italian region of Emilia-Romagna. Within the diversity of Lambrusco varieties, Grasparossa holds a special position. Deeply rooted in the culinary tradition of Emilia-Romagna, historically, this grape variety was considered a simple table wine. However, in recent years, an impressive quality revolution has taken place, giving rise to high-quality Lambrusco wines. The origins of the Lambrusco grape can be traced back to ancient times, as historical records suggest. During the Middle Ages, monasteries played a significant role in preserving and advancing viticultural knowledge, with monasteries in the Emilia-Romagna region likely contributing to the preservation and cultivation of grape varieties like Lambrusco Grasparossa. Over the centuries, Lambrusco wines gained importance and became an integral part of local culture and gastronomy. The 1980s marked a decisive phase for the region, as a quality revolution took hold. Winemakers began optimizing their cultivation methods and adopting modern winemaking techniques to produce higher-quality variants of Lambrusco from the humble table wines. The leaves of the Lambrusco Grasparossa plant are typically medium to large, green, and hand shaped. The grapes, with a conical or cylindrical shape, are medium to large, while the berries are small to medium-sized with a thin skin. Lambrusco Grasparossa vines thrive particularly well in the hilly vineyards of Emilia-Romagna. Although the plants are adaptable, they prefer clay soils. In recent decades, the reputation of Lambrusco has steadily improved. An increased focus on quality, the preservation of traditional production methods, and the recognition of the diversity of Lambrusco grapes have contributed to Lambrusco being perceived today as a high-quality wine.
