Description

Grappa di Moscato Barricata / Mazzetti d'Altavilla / Piedmont

Spirits from Italy

Due to its intense bouquet and overly sweet aroma, the grape was associated with muscum (musk) in ancient times. The Moscato grape was then dried to concentrate a few drops of pure enjoyment that even honey could not take on. So, imagine the explosion of intense flavors in the Grappa di Moscato and imagine how its gentleness, through careful and balanced aging, can produce even more lovable notes.

The distillation technique has been known in Italy since the 11th century and was later spread by the Jesuits. Grappas are distilled from fermented press residues from winemaking. The use of the so-called marc is therefore sustainable, because the grapes can be used not only for wine, but also for a wonderful spirit. For a long time, grappa had the reputation of being a drink from poor farmers, but thanks to technical optimizations of the distillation process in the course of the 20th century, grappa slowly became one of the world's most respected types of spirits, even among gourmets.

The Mazzetti di Altavilla distillery from Altavilla near the famous “truffle town” of Alba in Piedmont has achieved true mastery in the production of Grappe. Strongly connected to tradition, but at the same time always looking for innovation.

This Grappa is distilled in a discontinuous process in copper stills that are indirectly fired with steam. The Grappa di Moscato Barricata is made from the pomace of the Moscato grape. This high-quality white grape variety is known all over the world and in Piedmont it is used to produce spicy dessert wines. When the grappa is made from the marc, it is refined in barrique barrels made from Italian acacia and the master distiller decides when it is ready to drink. Usually this can take between one and four years.

This wonderfully mild and round pomace brandy with an alcohol content of 43% Vol. contains an explosion of aromas. The taste is balanced, aromatic and with special nuances of mixed flowers, fruits, and herbs. You can taste sage, rose, violet and peach, for example.
