NIVASCO Brachetto Piemonte DOC 2024 (6 bottles)
Description
"Nivasco" Brachetto Piemonte DOC 2024 / Vinchio Vaglio / Piedmont
Container of 6 bottles
Red wine from Italy
The “Nivasco” Brachetto Piemonte DOC 2024 from Vinchio Vaglio is a characterful dessert wine crafted from the rare red grape variety Brachetto. This aromatic cultivar is found almost exclusively in the southern reaches of Piedmont, where it thrives on calcareous clay soils and is trained using the Guyot system. The vines, with their vigorous tendrils climbing taut wires, bear compact clusters of small, vividly red berries that combine fruity sweetness with a lively acidity — ideal traits for producing refined sweet wines.
Harvesting takes place by hand during the first ten days of September, always in the cool morning hours to preserve freshness. After destemming and gentle crushing, the must undergoes a twelve-hour maceration to extract aromatic compounds. It is then held at a steady 0 °C in stainless steel tanks for approximately two months, allowing the primary aromas to remain intact. Fermentation proceeds at around 16 °C and is halted once the optimal alcohol level of 6.5% Vol is reached.
In the glass, the Brachetto reveals a deep ruby hue with hints of garnet. Its bouquet is fresh and mossy, marked by sweet floral notes and delicate red fruits such as cherries and strawberries. On the palate, it offers a gentle, elegant sweetness supported by a balanced interplay of freshness and effervescence. A fine mousse adds vibrancy and enhances its joyful drinkability.
Served at a temperature between 10 and 12 °C, the “Nivasco” unfolds its full aromatic charm. It pairs beautifully with fruit-based desserts like berry tarts, fresh fruit salads or sorbets, and also complements chocolate creations and nut-based pastries. Mild cheeses — from fresh goat’s cheese to creamy blue varieties — provide a delightful contrast to its sweet profile. Whether enjoyed chilled as an aperitif or used as a base for inventive cocktails, this Brachetto impresses with its versatility and charming character. Presented here as a set of six 0.75-litre bottles, it’s perfect for sharing on special occasions or gifting with style.
Behind this wine stands the esteemed Vinchio Vaglio cooperative, founded in 1959 and now comprising over 400 members. Grape variety
BRACHETTO
The Brachetto grape variety, with its origins dating back to antiquity, is cultivated in the northern Italian region of Piedmont and is renowned for its use in the production of sweet, fruity red and sparkling wines. The name "Brachetto" likely derives from "brachìum," referring to the grape's short stem. In the hilly landscapes surrounding Acqui Terme and Asti, the Brachetto grape found optimal conditions for growth and ripening. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance period, it enjoyed great popularity among the nobility and wealthy families of Piedmont, with its sweet and fruity wines highly esteemed at banquets and festivities. However, the history of the Brachetto vine has been marked by highs and lows. In the 19th century, many vineyards in the region were devastated by the phylloxera plague, leading to a decline in Brachetto cultivation. Yet, in the latter half of the 20th century, interest in reviving some indigenous grape varieties, including Brachetto, was renewed. Winemakers recognized the potential of this grape and began cultivating it purposefully, especially for the production of sweet and sparkling wines. The leaves of the Brachetto plant are medium to large, dark green, and glossy, with a delicate oval shape. The grapes are comparatively small, conically shaped, and grow in loosely arranged clusters with thin skin. They typically ripen early in the season and boast a characteristic red hue when fully matured. The berries are also small and offer a juicy, fleshy consistency. Their sweet taste and intense aroma often evoke notes of red berries and flowers. The Brachetto plant thrives best in regions with a moderate climate, such as that prevalent in Piedmont. Due to its susceptibility to certain diseases and pests, its cultivation requires careful monitoring and care. The Brachetto grape variety is an integral part of Piedmontese wine tradition, offering a diverse selection of sweet and refreshing wines that reflect the aromas and characteristics of the region.
