Low-alcohol rosé wine from Italy
Since 1904, Mezzacorona has been cultivating its vineyards in the valleys of Trentino and South Tyrol. These regions, with their diverse microclimates ranging from mild to moderate and landscapes featuring deep valleys and mountain ranges with peaks over 3500 meters, are particularly suited for viticulture. In the heart of the Dolomites, wines of unique and authentic character are created, reflecting the influence of their homeland. Mezzacorona's wines demonstrate a deep understanding of the special characteristics of their vineyards and grape varieties. They are aromatic and elegant, pure and skilful - just like the vintners who cultivate them and the land on which they grow. For generations, dedicated winemaking families have worked environmentally consciously, employing sustainable farming methods. They care for their vineyards using integrated viticulture systems to ensure natural products. A team of experienced oenologists and agronomists supports the vintners throughout the production process, from the vine to the harvest to the bottling. They combine modern techniques and production equipment with traditional methods.
The Pinot Grigio grape originated in Burgundy from a mutation of the Pinot Noir grape. In the 19th century, it arrived in Italy, becoming established in Friuli Venezia Giulia, Veneto, and later in Trentino. These regions offer ideal conditions for cultivation due to their location and moderate climate. The grapes are small, compact, and gray-pink in colour, ripening later in Trentino, enhancing their aromas and acidity. Vintners in this region focus on producing high-quality, fresh, and fruity wines with balanced acidity, highlighting the characteristics of the Pinot Grigio grape.
The Nove Rosé is a naturally low-calorie and low-alcohol wine. A natural maturation process without artificial dealcoholisation results in a wine with ripe aromas and crisp flavour notes. Thanks to the alpine climate in the valleys, the natural sugar content tends to be lower. Some grapes, harvested earlier and in specific cooler regions, naturally have a lower potential alcohol content. Vibrant aromas are enhanced by sunny days, the acidity is preserved by cool nights, and - thanks to the Alpine breeze - the ripening of the grapes is accelerated without increasing the sugar content.
The winemakers of Mezzacorona cultivate the grapes for the light Nove Pinot Grigio Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT in a fertile alluvial plain in the idyllic Adige Valley. These vineyards nestle against gentle hills northeast of the charming village of Mezzocorona, also known as Kronmetz, in the enchanting Trentino region. This unique growing area is particularly renowned as "Zambiani" in the picturesque Rotaliana Plain. The grapes are harvested between the last week of August and early September, destemmed and crushed, then cold-macerated for a very short period. A gentle pressing follows. The resulting must is fermented with selected yeasts at a temperature of 16 to 18 degrees Celsius.
The bouquet of the low-alcohol "Nove" Pinot Grigio Rosé from Trentino is rich and diverse, characterised by fruity and floral aromas. Strawberries, raspberries, and red currants lend it a sweet, fresh note. Lemon and lime add extra zest, while pears, apples, and peaches contribute complexity. White blossoms, such as acacia flowers, complement the fruity aromas and imbue the bouquet with elegance. A fine minerality, derived from the vineyard's soil, gives the wine depth. On the palate, this rosé is balanced and refreshing. A lively, well-integrated acidity makes it fresh and sprightly. The red berries continue to shine through in the taste, complemented by juicy notes of citrus fruits and ripe yellow fruits. A hint of natural sweetness highlights the fruitiness without making the wine feel heavy. The mineral notes from the bouquet are also present on the palate, adding finesse and complexity. The wine finishes with a refreshing, clean aftertaste, harmoniously blending the fruity and mineral notes.
The "Nove" Pinot Grigio Rosé Vigneti delle Dolomiti IGT from Mezzacorona is a versatile and fresh wine that pairs excellently with a variety of dishes. At an optimal drinking temperature of around 10 to 12 degrees Celsius, it harmonises particularly well with light starters such as bruschetta with tomatoes and basil, antipasti with marinated vegetables and olives, as well as fish or meat carpaccio. Salads are also ideal companions for this wine. A classic Caesar salad or salads with fresh fruits and goat cheese highlight the fresh notes of the Pinot Grigio Rosé. When it comes to seafood, prawns or shrimps, mussels, and salmon tartare are perfect partners. Light pasta and rice dishes, such as pasta with vegetables or seafood and risotto with asparagus or mushrooms, also complement the wine wonderfully. For lovers of white meat and poultry, chicken breast with lemon sauce and turkey medallions provide a delicious combination. Vegetarian dishes such as grilled vegetables and zucchini spaghetti with pesto can be delightfully enjoyed with a glass of Pinot Grigio Rosé. Fresh and mild cheeses like mozzarella, burrata, or ricotta, as well as goat cheese, round off the tasting experience. In summer, light dishes like vegetable quiche or light fish dishes are the perfect choice to fully enjoy this wine. Last but not least, this rosé is a wonderful aperitif wine.

Grape variety
PINOT GRIGIO
The Pinot Grigio grape originally hails from France’s Burgundy region, where it emerged as a mutation of the Pinot Noir grape. In the 19th century, it was brought to Italy, initially finding a home in the regions of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Veneto. It later spread to Trentino, nestled between the Dolomites and the mountains of Lake Garda. These areas offer excellent conditions for cultivating Pinot Grigio, thanks to their geographic location and moderate climate. The leaves of the Pinot Grigio vine are typically medium-sized, rounded, and deeply lobed. The shoots are of medium strength, with a green to reddish hue. The grapes themselves are small, compact, and cylindrical, with a distinctive grey-pink coloration that sets them apart from other white grape varieties. In Trentino, Pinot Grigio grapes ripen later, allowing them to develop their characteristic aromas and the necessary acidity that distinguishes high-quality wines. The moderate climate and diverse soil types in Trentino contribute to preserving complex aromas and a good acid structure in the grapes. Today, vintners in this northern Italian region dedicate themselves meticulously to cultivating Pinot Grigio, ensuring the best conditions for producing premium wines. Their focus is often on creating fresh, fruity wines with balanced acidity that highlight the typical features of this grape variety.
