Prosecco Rosé Millesimato Brut DOC 2024
Description
Prosecco Rosé Millesimato Brut DOC 2024 / Le Manzane / Veneto
Sparkling wine from Italy
The Prosecco Rosé Millesimato Brut DOC 2024 from Le Manzane is a refined expression of Italian sparkling wine craftsmanship – elegant, layered and unmistakably distinctive. It hails from the esteemed family-run estate Le Manzane, nestled in the picturesque hills of Valdobbiadene since the mid-20th century. Over three generations, the family has cultivated a deep understanding of terroir, grape varieties and artisanal precision, producing wines that are celebrated for their authenticity and sensory finesse.
The grapes for this vintage Prosecco Rosé are grown in vineyards reaching up to 200 metres above sea level, on medium-textured soils with a clay-rich profile. This combination ensures balanced water retention and promotes even ripening, lending the wine both structure and aromatic depth. The cuvée comprises 85% Glera – a native white grape of the Veneto region – and 15% Pinot Nero, a noble red variety also known as Pinot Noir, widely recognised for its role in Champagne production. Since the introduction of the Prosecco DOC Rosé classification in 2020, Pinot Nero has been the sole authorised red grape permitted in the blend.
Vinification follows the Charmat method (Metodo Martinotti), which imparts the wine’s signature fine mousse and freshness. Following manual harvest, the grapes are gently pressed and fermented in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature of 13°C. Alcoholic fermentation proceeds at 18°C, after which the wine matures for two months in steel. A second fermentation then takes place in pressurised tanks over approximately 30 days at 14–15°C, followed by a further month of refinement. After filtration and bottling, the wine undergoes a minimum of thirty days’ bottle ageing, adding polish and complexity.
In the glass, the Prosecco Rosé reveals a delicate rosé hue with a salmon-hued sheen. Its mousse is fine and persistent, with a creamy texture that enhances its elegant freshness. The nose offers a complex bouquet of raspberry, wild strawberry and redcurrant, lifted by floral notes of wild rose and a subtle hint of white peach. On the palate, the wine is lively and harmonious, supported by well-integrated acidity and a gentle mineral touch. The finish is dry and clean, with a refined echo of red fruit – characteristic of a Brut with a residual sugar level between 10 and 12 g/L.
Served chilled at 6 to 8°C, this Prosecco Rosé reaches its full potential. It is an excellent choice as an aperitif and pairs beautifully with light starters such as vitello tonnato, salmon carpaccio or summery salads. Equally, it complements fish dishes, steamed vegetables, mild Asian cuisine and fruity desserts like strawberry tartlets and lemon sorbet. A sparkling wine that bears the unmistakable signature of Le Manzane – authentic, graceful and full of character.

Grape variety
GLERA (PROSECCO)
The Glera grape, a traditional variety of the Veneto region, is primarily used in the production of Prosecco. Its origins stretch deep into the history of the northeastern Italian region of Veneto. For centuries, it thrived on the gentle slopes around Treviso and Conegliano. While the exact origin story of Glera is not fully documented, it is believed to have its roots in this region, long renowned for its excellent wines. Originally, the grape variety was called Prosecco, named after the village of the same name in the area. However, in the 2000s, it was decided to officially rename it Glera. This was done to avoid confusion and to reserve the name Prosecco for the protected designation of origin of the wine. Historically, Prosecco was produced as a still wine. However, with the introduction of the Charmat method in the early 20th century, the production of sparkling wines began. In this method, the second fermentation takes place in a pressure tank to capture carbon dioxide and carbonate the wine. The leaves of the Glera plant are medium-sized, round, and of a shiny green colour. The grapes are typically large and have a conical shape. Loosely arranged, they are well-ventilated and therefore less susceptible to diseases. Mostly yellow green in colour, the berries have a juicy, sweet taste with subtle aromas. The Glera plant thrives in moderate climatic conditions with warm summers and mild winters. An ideal climate and optimal soils with good drainage are typically found in the hills of Veneto. Winemakers use traditional cultivation techniques to preserve the quality of Glera grapes. Vineyards are lovingly tended, and the grapes are harvested by hand to select only the best. Prosecco has since become a globally esteemed sparkling wine. It is enjoyed in many countries and is known for its fresh, fruity character as well as its excellent value for money.
PINOT NERO
The Pinot Nero, also known as Pinot Noir, is a demanding and noble grape variety cultivated in many wine regions around the world. In Veneto, one of Italy’s most significant wine regions, Pinot Nero exhibits some special qualities and characteristics influenced by the region’s specific terroir and climate. Originally hailing from Burgundy, one of the most famous wine regions in the world, the earliest records of this grape variety date back to the 1st century AD, when the Romans introduced viticulture to the region. During the Middle Ages, Cistercian and Benedictine monks promoted the cultivation of Pinot Noir and perfected viticulture methods. Throughout the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, Pinot Noir gradually spread to other parts of Europe, particularly to nearby regions such as Champagne, where it became a crucial component in the production of sparkling wine. In Veneto, the cultivation of Pinot Nero began in the early 20th century. The region sought ways to diversify its wine portfolio and produce high-quality wines that could be competitive in the international market. The cool hills and diverse terroir of Veneto proved ideal for growing Pinot Nero. Today, Pinot Nero is an established grape variety in Veneto, used both in varietal wines and in blends. The leaves of the Pinot Nero plant are medium-sized, rounded, and deeply lobed. They have a rich green colour that can vary depending on location and climate. The grape clusters are medium-sized and loosely packed. The berries themselves are relatively small, rounded, and have thin skins. They ripen relatively early and range in colour from dark blue to black blue, depending on their stage of ripeness and vineyard location. The berries of the Pinot Nero vine are characterised by a complex aroma, encompassing notes of red fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, and cherries, along with subtle floral and spicy nuances. The combination of a long history, ideal growing conditions in Veneto, and unique aromatic profile makes Pinot Nero a fascinating grape variety that is cherished both in Veneto and worldwide.
