Vermentino di Sardegna DOC BIO 2024
Description
Vermentino di Sardegna DOC BIO 2024 / Antonella Corda / Sardinia
White wine from Italy
The Vermentino di Sardegna DOC BIO 2024 from Antonella Corda is a characterful white wine that captures the pure essence of Sardinia’s Mediterranean soul. Grown in the Serdiana region, just north of Cagliari, the vines thrive in a landscape shaped by sandy-loamy soils, a limestone-rich substructure and a warm, dry climate - conditions that are perfectly suited to the Vermentino grape. The vineyards lie at around 200 metres above sea level and span two distinctive plots: Mitza Manna, known for its fresh, floral expression, and Mitza S’ollastu, whose clay-rich soils lend the wine depth and structure.
Antonella Corda, a young winemaker with deep family roots in Sardinian viticulture, took over the family estate in 2010 and transformed it into a modern boutique winery. With meticulous care and a firm commitment to sustainability, she produces wines of certified organic quality that reflect both the land and her philosophy. The absence of synthetic treatments, the promotion of biodiversity and the selective hand-harvesting of grapes all speak to a holistic approach that safeguards the environment while preserving the authenticity of the terroir.
Vinification is carried out with particular attention to freshness and clarity of expression. Following a brief cold maceration, the must is fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. The wine then matures for six months on fine lees, also in stainless steel, gaining texture and complexity while retaining its vibrant, fruit-driven style.
In the glass, this Vermentino shines with a luminous straw-yellow hue. The bouquet is layered and distinctly Mediterranean, offering notes of pineapple, mirabelle plum, orange and grapefruit, lifted by floral hints of citrus blossom and a delicate herbal touch of sage and capers. On the palate, it is precise and well-balanced, with zesty acidity, a creamy texture and a subtle saline minerality. Stylistically, it impresses with its fresh, finely fruited and complex profile, elegantly showcasing the character of its origin.
As a versatile food companion, this Vermentino reveals its full potential alongside Mediterranean cuisine: grilled fish, seafood, pasta with lemon pesto, vegetable antipasti or Sardinian specialities such as bottarga and fregola. It also pairs beautifully with poultry, light meat dishes and mild cheeses. Best served at 8 to 10 °C, it makes for a refined aperitif or a graceful partner to elegant dining.

Grape variety
VERMENTINO
Vermentino is a white grape variety from the Mediterranean region, thriving particularly well in Sardinia. Its origins likely lie in the western Mediterranean, possibly in Spain or Corsica. From there, it spread along the coasts, reaching Liguria in the 14th or 15th century, where it is known as Pigato. In Liguria, the variety found ideal conditions and later spread to Piedmont, where it is called Favorita. In the 19th century, Vermentino arrived in Sardinia, probably via sea routes. On the island, it discovered perfect climatic and geological conditions: a Mediterranean climate, rich soils, and proximity to the sea. These factors favoured the growth and quality of the wines. The Vermentino vine is characterised by medium to large, deep green leaves with a distinctive five-lobed shape. The grapes are cylindrical to conical, sometimes slightly winged, with medium-sized, yellow-green berries that take on a golden hue when fully ripe. The thin but tough skin makes the grapes resistant to pests and diseases. Vermentino is a late-ripening variety, harvested in late summer to early autumn. It prefers warm, sunny climates and thrives in well-drained soils, especially the granite and sandy soils of Sardinia. These soils impart a unique minerality to the wines. Vermentino wines from Sardinia are versatile and refreshing, reflecting the maritime influences and diverse terroir of the island. They offer a wide range of aromas and are a popular accompaniment to many Mediterranean dishes.
