Since the beginning, Vinchio and Vaglio Serra have always been considered the core zone for the production of the best Barbera grapes. On the winery are collected almost all the grapes produced in this area; the Winmaker of the Cantina have selected the oldest vineyards, those with lower production and higher quality. Every year, with knowledge and a great wine culture, Vinchio Vaglio-Serra produce this masterpiece: VIGNE VECCHIE Barbera d'Asti Superiore DOCG.

Characterization: Vinchio Vaglio-Serra has got very old Barbera-variety vineyards, which date back to the period prior to the Second World War. These vineyards have a special planting system, with very close plants and an extraordinary sun exposure. Grapes coming from "Vigne Vecchie" are the richest in sugar-content and they keep a high quality standard even in bad vintages. Grapes are chosen on the basis of their ripening.
They are harvested and kept in boxes of 20 kilos each. These selected grapes are pressed under the supervision of the firm's managers. The vine-growers must empty the boxes one at a time in a small wine press. The fermentation is done through vertical vinification-machines at controlled temperature. The drawing process starts after 10 days of fermentation. The wine is then transferred in small oak barrels (225 litres/each) for a period of time that changes according to the vintage and the wine's characteristics. Its evolution is carefully supervised through monthly checks, until it is judged ready for bottling.
Sensory characteristics: Its bouquet is strong, ethereal, spicy and slightly "boisé" (woody flavour). Very light chocolate flavors. It is a full-bodied wine, soft and long-lasting, with light and sweet tannins.
Color: Bright ruby red with light-orange overtones.

Stopper: Natural cork
How to serve: With tasty first courses with meat or mushroomsauces. It goes well with red meats and game. It is also suitable with matured, spicy and herb cheeses.
Recommended serving temperature: Ideal at approx. 18°C.

BARBERA is a red grape variety from Piedmont in northwestern Italy and a high quality grape. It is one of the most important and common Italian varietals. The Barbera was already famous in the 13th century. Even then, the still significant growing region Monferrato was famous for this variety. The wines are considered powerful, with pronounced plum flavors, low tannin with full "body" and a deep-ruby color.
