Weißburgunder Festival Südtirol DOC 2020 / Cantina Merano / South-Tirol

White wine from Italy

The Pinot Blanc grape feels particularly at home on the barren soil and sunny slopes in the Merano and Venosta Valley. It has been grown extremely successfully in South Tyrol for over 150 years and has become the leading white variety in recent years. A real all-rounder.

The Cantina Merano Burggräfler in Marling turns the hand-picked grapes into a wonderfully playful white wine. After the grapes are harvested, they are fermented in stainless steel tanks and left to rest on the fine lees for at least five months. The result is a light-yellow white wine with greenish reflections, which smells fresh of notes of pineapple and green apples. In the background you can still see caramel and nuts. This Pinot Blanc from the Festival line is dry and balanced in the mouth. Its lively fruit acidity makes it stimulating with aromas of lemon, quince, and nutmeg. The finale is nice and short and a bit playful.

Served at around 10 to 12° C, you can offer this white wine to your guests as a wonderful aperitif. Also nice with starters, which shouldn't be too strong. It also goes well with dishes based on vegetables and fish. Original with fruits and sweet desserts.

Grape variety

The WEISSER BURGUNDER grape variety (Pinot Bianco) has been known since the 14th century and probably has its origins in the area between western Switzerland and south-eastern France. It was created by a mutation from the Pinot Noir. The Pinot Blanc came to South Tyrol around the year 1850 and has become indispensable in the present.
