ZIRU Isola dei Nuraghi IGT BIO 2021
Description
"Ziru" Isola dei Nuraghi IGT BIO 2021 / Antonella Corda / Sardinia
White wine from Italy
The “Ziru” Isola dei Nuraghi IGT 2020 is a characterful organic white wine from Sardinia that captures the essence of the Mediterranean island in every nuance. It hails from the vineyards surrounding Serdiana, a region steeped in tradition in southern Sardinia, renowned for its calcareous-marl soils and sun-drenched Mediterranean climate. Hot, dry summers and mild winters create ideal conditions for cultivating indigenous grape varieties such as Vermentino, which thrive here to their fullest expression.
Cantina Antonella Corda is considered one of Sardinia’s most promising boutique wineries, standing for sustainable viticulture, artisanal precision and a deep-rooted sense of Sardinian identity. Winemaker Antonella Corda continues her family’s legacy with passion and a spirit of innovation. Her wines are crafted from organically farmed vines trained using the Guyot method - a technique that ensures optimal sun exposure and balanced yields.
Ziru is vinified from a selection of native white grape varieties, predominantly Vermentino. The grapes are hand-harvested in early September, gently processed and macerated on the skins for around 20 days. The wine then matures for 24 months in a combination of terracotta amphorae and stainless-steel tanks. Filtration is deliberately avoided to preserve the wine’s natural texture and aromatic depth. After bottling, Ziru undergoes an extended period of bottle ageing to harmonise its flavour profile.
In the glass, Ziru reveals a luminous golden hue with a delicate haze. The bouquet is layered and refined: floral notes of wild meadow blossoms mingle with citrus fruits such as grapefruit, white pear, wet stone and hints of Mediterranean herbs. On the palate, the wine offers fresh acidity, pronounced minerality and a subtle touch of tannin, gently integrated through amphora ageing. The texture is medium-bodied, the aromatics precise and restrained - a white wine of depth and poise.
Ziru is an excellent choice as an aperitif and a versatile companion at the table. It pairs beautifully with seafood such as scallops or grilled squid, light fish dishes, fresh salads with citrus vinaigrette, Mediterranean-style vegetables, and mild cheeses like goat’s cheese or ricotta. The recommended serving temperature is between 10 and 12 °C.
Thanks to its structure and natural vinification, Ziru offers ageing potential of up to six years. With time, it gains in complexity and aromatic finesse - an organic wine that reflects Sardinia’s terroir with authenticity and elegance.

- Origin and soils: The vineyards of Antonella Corda are situated near Serdiana, not far from Cagliari, in an area characterised by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild wintersn- ideal conditions for the ripening of indigenous grape varieties such as Vermentino. The vines grow on marl-limestone soils that offer excellent drainage and impart a distinctive minerality to the wine. This soil composition encourages deep root development, contributing to the wine’s complexity and ageing potential. The vines are trained using the Guyot method, a traditional pruning technique that ensures balanced yields and optimal sun exposure for the grapes.
- Winemaking: Wine creation begins with the careful hand-harvesting of the grapes in September. After destemming and gentle crushing, the must undergoes a maceration period of approximately 20 days, allowing for the extraction of aroma, structure and depth from the skins. The wine is then matured for 24 months in a combination of terracotta amphorae and stainless-steel tanks. Filtration is deliberately avoided to preserve the wine’s natural texture and aromatic complexity. Following bottling, the wine rests for an extended period in the bottle, allowing its sensory profile to harmonise and refine further.
- Scent: A complex bouquet that harmoniously blends floral tones with fruit-driven and mineral nuances. On the nose, the wine initially appears restrained, gradually revealing a layered aromatic profile. Delicate hints of wildflower, citrus - particularly grapefruit - emerge, accompanied by subtle notes of wet stone and a gentle touch of Mediterranean herbs. These aromas unfold slowly, lending the wine depth and elegance.
- Taste: On the palate, the wine reveals subtle notes of grapefruit and pear, supported by a pronounced minerality with a gentle grip. Its fresh, vibrant acidity lends structure and reinforces a clean, linear profile. A delicate touch of tannin, softly integrated through maturation in terracotta amphorae, completes the flavour composition. The texture is medium-bodied with notable depth, while the balance between fruit, acidity and mineral tension results in a harmonious and overall restrained expression.
