ALBA Grappa di Barolo e Erbaluce Riserva / Mazzetti d'Altavilla / Piedmont
Spirits from Italy
Mazzetti d'Altavilla is a historic distillery nestled in the heart of Piedmont, specifically in Altavilla Monferrato. Since its founding in 1846, this family-run business has been dedicated to the art of crafting fine Grappa, and today it is led by the seventh generation of the family – sisters Silvia, Chiara, and Elisa Belvedere Mazzetti. The distillery places great emphasis on selecting top-quality raw materials and follows a careful, traditional distillation process to preserve the richness of the aromas. In addition to Grappa, Mazzetti d'Altavilla produces Acquavite di Vino, Acquavite d’Uva, liqueurs, and gin. These refined products embody the rich winemaking heritage of Piedmont, a region that was recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2014.
The Grappa Riserva Alba from Mazzetti d'Altavilla is a true masterpiece of distillation. It is crafted from the pomace of two exceptional grape varieties: Nebbiolo di Barolo and Erbaluce. In this exquisite blend, the intense aromas of these noble grapes come together in perfect harmony. Piedmont, a region renowned for centuries for its wine culture and outstanding vineyards, provides the backdrop for this remarkable Grappa. To capture the very essence of this unique land, Mazzetti d’Altavilla created the Riserva Alba – a long-aged Grappa made from carefully selected Nebbiolo da Barolo pomace, with its characteristic red berries from the Langhe, and Erbaluce, a white grape that defines the Canavese region. These two distillates are artfully combined to create a rich, emotive taste experience. The distillation process is carried out discontinuously, ensuring that the aromas are delicately and thoroughly extracted. After distillation, the Grappa is aged for at least 18 months in fine Tronçais oak barrels, followed by further refinement in small wooden casks. This meticulous aging process imparts extraordinary depth and complexity to the Riserva Alba, making every sip a truly unforgettable pleasure.
