Description

Bardolino Chiaretto Classico DOC 2022 / Le Morette / Veneto

Rosé wine from Italy

Le Morette is a family-run winery founded in 1960 and located in Peschiera del Garda, in a narrow belt that separates the southern shores of Lake Garda and Lake Frassino, in the heart of the Lugana DOC. The small winery is now being run by the third generation, but the operating philosophy has remained the same: to maintain the greatest possible respect for the environment and to apply sustainability principles both in the vineyard and in the winery. The name of the winery derives from the mallard duck that populates the beaches of Lake Frassino and helps give this area its dreamy character.

The Bardolino Classico Chiaretto from Le Morette, like its red brother Bardolino DOC, is made from three different grape varieties. First there is the red grape variety Corvina, which is mainly cultivated in Veneto. The grapes are small and densely packed, with a thick skin and high acidity. It provides powerful aromas of red berries, cherries, and spices. The second grape variety, Rondinella, produces rather light wines with a low alcohol content. Its grapes are large, loosely packed and have a thin skin. Aromas of cherries, berries and spices are typical of wines made from this variety. Finally, the last component for the Bardolino Chiaretto is the late-ripening red grape variety Molinara, which gives it the rather light color and a touch of bitterness.

The grapes for the Bardolino Chiaretto all thrive in the historic area around the town of Bardolino, which is why the wine can also be called Bardolino Classico. The vines are planted using the Guyot system of cultivation on soils based on moraine sediments, characteristic of southern Lake Garda. The proximity to Lake Garda, the presence of Mount Baldo, which offers protection from the cold north winds, and the morainic hills ideally exposed to the sun, create ideal conditions for viticulture. All grapes are hand-picked in the last decade of September and quickly transported to the winery. Here they are destemmed and gently pressed. The vinification takes place in steel tanks at a low controlled temperature of 18ºC. The subsequent maceration of the must begin with four to six hours of skin contact and subsequent fermentation for a week without skin contact at a temperature of 18°C. After a short aging period of one month in its bottle, Le Morette's Bardolino Chiaretto Classico is released for the market.

The Bardolino Chiaretto Classico DOC shows itself in the glass with a brilliant pink and unfolds a great harmony of aromas in the nose, which are initially floral, but later are dominated by soft fruit notes. The taste of this great rosé is delicately dry, shows pronounced fruity notes and is endowed with great freshness. In the long, dry finish, the properties that confirm the personality of the Bardolino Chiaretto are revealed once again.

At an optimal drinking temperature of 13 to 14°C, Bardolino Chiaretto is a fresh wine that is particularly suitable as an aperitif and also goes well with light dishes such as Mediterranean appetizers, freshwater and sea fish first courses, pizza and sushi. This wine also knows how to accompany soup dishes, grilled and baked fish, poultry and roasts made from white meat.

Grape variety

CORVINA

CORVINA is a red variety native in the valley of Verona. In the present she can only be almost exclusively in this area. Unmixed expanded she is not very successful, because she is not balanced enough.

MOLINARA

MOLINARA is a red grape that is often also called Breppon. She is grown mainly in Italy, where she is part of the famous Valpolicella and Bardolino.

RONDINELLA

RONDINELLA is a well-known red grape from the Veneto. The Rondinella is also a rarely expanded variety, since she has little independent character.
