Red wine from Italy
Barolo – the "King of Wines" and the "Wine of Kings." Deeply rooted in the rolling hills of Piedmont, this noble creation emerges from the Nebbiolo grape, captivating with its powerful elegance. Its intense bouquet of roses, cherries, and spices evolves with each passing year, transforming into a true delight for connoisseurs. A wine of character, steeped in history, and unmistakably reflective of its homeland.
Beni di Batasiolo – a winery that embodies the heart of Piedmont. With passion and tradition, this family-owned estate crafts exceptional wines that capture the essence of the renowned Langhe region. Their Barolo, in particular, stands out for its depth, elegance, and complexity. The seamless blend of artisanal expertise and modern innovation has solidified Batasiolo’s place in the world of fine wine. Each drop tells a story of heritage and the soul of Piedmont—a true indulgence for lovers of refined wine culture.
In the gentle hills of Piedmont, a time-honoured tradition unfolds each October—the meticulous hand-harvesting of Nebbiolo grapes. Only the finest, sun-kissed fruit is selected with expert precision, laying the foundation for an extraordinary wine. After harvest, the magic of vinification begins: the grapes ferment in stainless steel tanks, accompanied by a delicate maceration of the skins that lasts for at least ten to twelve days, gradually unveiling their rich aromas and hues. A continuous pumping-over at controlled temperatures ensures that the wine develops its full depth and expression.
Yet true greatness comes with time. Refinement begins in Slavonian oak barrels, where the wine acquires its structure and elegance, before continuing its maturation in stainless steel tanks. Finally, this masterfully aged creation reaches its pinnacle—the moment the bottle is opened, and its intricate aromas rise into the air, ready to enchant the palate and soul.
Once gently decanted, the bouquet reveals the full splendour of the Nebbiolo grape. The nose is caressed by seductive notes of dried fruits, fragrant flowers, and ripe berries, complemented by subtle herbal nuances that lend the wine an intriguing depth. On the palate, the garnet-red Barolo from Beni di Batasiolo displays its finest attributes: a masterful balance of firm tannins, refreshing vibrancy, and harmonious alcohol content. Powerful yet undeniably elegant, it leaves a velvety sensation, unfolding into an impressive complexity. Its finish? Intense, majestic, and astonishingly long—a true masterpiece for discerning wine enthusiasts.
This Barolo reaches its full glory in perfect harmony with culinary delights: whether paired with succulent red meat, aromatic game, or a richly braised roast, its refined structure and deep flavours enhance every dish beautifully. Aged cheese also finds in this wine a worthy companion, amplifying its nuanced flavours.
Yet for Beni di Batasiolo, this wine is more than just a refined choice for special occasions. It embodies the philosophy that exquisite enjoyment should not be reserved for celebratory moments alone—rather, it should complement fine cuisine and convivial gatherings where passion and joie de vivre take centre stage.
And finally, Barolo has always been a true wine for contemplation. Perhaps Camillo Benso, Count of Cavour, once sat with a glass of this precious wine in hand, reflecting on the unification of Italy—a moment of deep thought, accompanied by the timeless elegance of a great Barolo.

Grape variety
NEBBIOLO
The Nebbiolo grape is a noble red variety primarily cultivated in Piedmont, a region in the northwest of Italy. It is particularly renowned for its use in some of Italy's most famous red wines such as Barolo and Barbaresco. The name is derived from "nebbia" which means fog and points to the white coating on the berries, which forms when fully ripe. The origins of the Nebbiolo vine in Piedmont stretch back at least to the Middle Ages. It is believed that monks cultivated this grape variety in the region, especially in the hills surrounding the towns of Alba and Asti. During the Renaissance and the early modern period, viticulture gained significance in Piedmont, and the Nebbiolo vine established itself as one of the region's most important varieties. The first records of Nebbiolo wines date back to this period. In the 18th century, Piedmontese winemakers began to focus increasingly on cultivating Nebbiolo, particularly in the Langhe and Roero hills, as well as the Barolo and Barbaresco areas. These regions subsequently became some of the most renowned growing areas for Nebbiolo wines. The 19th century witnessed a golden age of winemaking in Piedmont. The Nebbiolo vine was further refined, and some of the region's most famous wines, such as Barolo and Barbaresco, began to emerge. During this time, specific viticultural practices and winemaking techniques were also perfected, many of which are still utilized today. Today, viticulture in Piedmont is experiencing a renaissance. The cultivation of Nebbiolo has evolved, with winemakers increasingly adopting sustainable practices and introducing cutting-edge technologies to enhance the quality of their wines. The leaves of the Nebbiolo plant are medium-sized, rounded, and have a dark green colour. They are often five-lobed and slightly undulating. The grapes are typically medium-sized, cylindrical, or slightly conical in shape, with a loose grape structure that promotes good ventilation and reduces the risk of fungal diseases. The berries of Nebbiolo grapes are comparatively small, with thin, delicate skin. They are of a bluish-black colour and ripen late in the season, characteristic of the variety. Nebbiolo thrives best in hilly or mountainous regions with calcareous soils, making Piedmont its ideal habitat. The finest Nebbiolo wines often originate from areas with specific microclimates that encourage slow ripening and optimal flavour development. Nebbiolo berries contain a high concentration of tannins and a balanced acidity, imparting structure, complexity, and longevity to wines made from this variety.
