Description

Casalforte Corvina Veronese IGT 2020 / Cantine Riondo / Veneto

Red wine from Italy

Casalforte is Cantine Riondo's premium line and represents the most refined interpretation of the winemaking tradition of the territory to which it belongs. The line includes elegant and full-bodied Venetian DOC and varietal wines, perfectly paired with the most complex and demanding dishes of Italian and international cuisine. The name pays homage to the typical "farms" present in many farms owned by winemakers who have wisely cultivated their land for countless generations with the "fortress" of soul and passion that has always distinguished them. Cantine Riondo, based in the heart of the Soave region between the cities of Verona and Venice, is a renowned Veneto winery known for its high quality wines. Although the company was only founded in 2008 as a wine cooperative, it is now one of the most important wine producers in Veneto. The corporate structure seems complicated, but in reality, it is very simple: two thousand winemakers cultivate 6000 hectares of vineyards in the provinces of Verona, Vicenza and Padua, giving the harvested grapes to five wineries for subsequent vinification.

The Corvina is a red grape variety that is mainly cultivated in northern Italy, particularly in the Veneto region. It is often cited as one of the most important varieties for the famous Italian red wine Amarone. The Corvina grapes have a thick skin and are therefore resistant to diseases and pests. The grapes for the Casalforte Corvina Veronese IGT are grown in the Valpolicella area, which stretches from the Veronese Pre-Alps to Lake Garda. The unique and varied climatic and geological characteristics of the area are the basis for the great originality and typicality of the wines.

The manual harvest begins in the last days of September and lasts until October. Only grapes with a high sugar content are selected. After destemming and pressing of the bunches of grapes, the winemaking begins with the so-called "Ganimede method". A continuous blending of the pomace achieves optimal extraction of colour and tannins. The aging of the Corvina from the Cantine Riondo lasts twelve months and is partly made of steel and partly made of wood.

Casalforte Corvina is a dry and full-bodied wine with an intense ruby red colour. The nose reveals elegant notes of black cherries and ripe blackberries accompanied by nuances of vanilla and sweet spices. Pronounced dark fruit notes develop on the palate. Overall, a complex red wine with an exceptional balance and a tasty finish.

At an optimal drinking temperature of around 18 to 20°C, this Corvina goes perfectly with pasta dishes with rich sauces, stews, red meat, game, and mature cheeses.

Grape variety

CORVINA

The CORVINA is a red grape variety that is mainly cultivated in northern Italy, particularly in the Veneto region. It is often cited as one of the most important varieties for the famous Italian red wine Amarone. The Corvina grapes have a thick skin and are therefore resistant to diseases and pests. The grape variety is also known for its low acidity and high tannins. Corvina is often blended with other grape varieties such as Rondinella and Molinara to create Amarone's signature flavour. There are also other wines made exclusively from Corvina, such as Bardolino or Valpolicella. Overall, Corvina is a versatile and hardy grape variety that allows winemakers to produce a wide range of red wines.
