Description

“Filarè” Rosato Terre di Chieti IGT BIO 2022 / Collefrisio / Abruzzo
Rosé wine from Italy

The Collefrisio winery is based in the picturesque town of Frisa, southwest of the port city of Pescara. Here, between the gentle coast of the Adriatic Sea and the steep slopes of the Majella National Park in southern Abruzzo, the vine plant finds a perfect habitat. The presence of the Majella and the sea positively influence the pedoclimatic environment and determine the ideal microclimate for the maturation of different grape varieties. The owners Amedeo De Luca and Antonio Patricelli are totally dedicated to the production of quality wines. They want to offer the market products with high added value, produced organically and without using products of animal origin in the production process. Collefrisio's wines aim for a contemporary taste that demands freshness and depth without giving up the pleasure of sharing and speaks many different languages.

The Montepulciano grape variety is a red grape variety grown mainly in Italy, specifically in the regions of Abruzzo, Marche, Molise, and Puglia. It is important to note that the grape variety is not associated with the Tuscan town of Montepulciano, known for its Vino Nobile di Montepulciano wines. The Montepulciano grapes have a thick skin and are rich in tannins, which gives them a high density of colour and a strong taste. Typical aromas are dark fruits, such as black cherries and blackberries, as well as spicy notes and a certain minerality. The grape variety is usually a component of blended wines but can also be used as a pure variety. Montepulciano wines are often full-bodied and powerful, with high levels of tannins and good acidity. They are ready to drink early but can also be stored for a few years to reach their full development. Overall, the Montepulciano grape variety is an important component of the Italian wine world, offering a variety of flavour profiles for wine lovers around the world.

The Montepulciano grapes for the "Filarè" Rosato Terre di Chieti IGT are grown in a hilly area near the village of Frisa with the "Pergola abruzzese" vine training system on clayey and calcareous soils at an average altitude of 200m asl. The pergola serves as protection from too much sun and rain. The grapes are harvested by hand in the first week of October. The fruits are cut individually by hand, placed in small baskets, and transported to the wine cellar for immediate processing. Here the grapes are crushed, destemmed, and gently pressed for the first fermentation. Now the red grapes undergo a white wine vinification. The method is also known as "Blanc de Noirs", which literally means "white from black". The colour of the wine comes from the skins, so it is important to separate the skins from the pressed grapes as quickly as possible. Typically, this is done within 12 to 24 hours of harvest to achieve the desired colour intensity. The maceration, which lasts a maximum of 12 hours for this wine, takes place at low temperature and the thermo-controlled alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks. Montepulciano rosé wines are a rather rare variant, which is becoming increasingly popular and represents an interesting alternative to other rosé wines.

Collefrisio's "Filarè" Rosato Terre di Chieti IGT is a cherry-red wine with floral notes and scents of fresh fruit, cherries, and black cherries on the nose. On the palate, this exceptional rosé has a good structure and balance. It is dry, fresh, persistent, and fragrant. Its fruitiness is perfectly linked to the olfactory sensation. A long finish awaits at the end.

At an optimal drinking temperature of around 8 to 10°C, the Rosato from Abruzzo is a good choice for light dishes such as salads, seafood, white meat or simply as an aperitif. It is also good for the summer and as an accompaniment to a picnic or barbecue.

Grape variety

MONTEPULCIANO

MONTEPULCIANO is a red grape variety. The Montepulciano grapes have a thick skin and are rich in tannins, which gives them a high density of colour and a strong taste. The wines made from the grapes of this grape variety are intensely coloured, down-to-earth to finely spicy and strong to high in alcohol. Although they can be stored well, they also taste very good when young.

BEWARE OF CONFUSION!!!

The grape variety Montepulciano, which is only grown in Abruzzo has nothing to do with the Tuscan town of Montepulciano. The wine grown here, while also delicious, is made from a Sangiovese grape.
