Description

Nuragus di Cagliari DOC BIO 2022 / Antonella Corda / Sardinia

White wine from Italy

The young winemaker Antonella Corda from the village of Serdiana north of Cagliari in the south of the beautiful Mediterranean island of Sardinia is the new discovery of the Italian wine scene, who received the coveted 3 glasses twice in a row from Gambero Rosso with her red Cannonau di Sardegna DOC. The history of Cantina Antonella Corda cannot be separated from that of its founder. A childhood in the middle of the vineyards, a family of winemakers for generations, a mother who passes on her love for the land and a father who teaches her a passion for work. Antonella inherited the family tradition in 2010 and took over the management of the company, turning it into a great project that was innovative compared to its past: to create a boutique winery capable of producing fine Sardinian wines to represent the Serdiana land in the world.

The white grape variety Nuragus is an autochthonous variety of the island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea. The name is derived from the famous Nuraghe - early historical towers of the Bonnanaro culture [2,200 - 1,600 BC] - on the island. It is very likely that this grape variety was brought to the island of Sardinia by the Phoenicians.

The vines for the Nuragus di Cagliari DOC thrive in the village of Campidano near the island's capital, Cagliari. This is where the wine naturally gets its first touch. The soils in this area consist of sand, loam, and clay with pebbles, which is important for the balance and character of the wine. The manual harvest of the grapes takes place at the beginning of October. Cold maceration then begins in the wine cellar, followed by fermentation at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. Maturation on the fine lees also takes place in stainless steel containers and takes at least six months.

This Nuragus by Antonella Corda expresses the two souls of Sardinia, the land, and the sea. The straw yellow colour is reminiscent of the sky over Sardinia just before sunset. Autumn fruits such as pear and apple stand out among its aromas, accompanied by a note of sea salt. Apple and pear stand out in its fine scent. Dry on the palate, this white wine is juicy, mineral, fresh and balanced. The acid is well integrated.

At a drinking temperature of around 10 to 12°C, this sardine is very suitable as an aperitif. Your guests are sure to be surprised and ask you about the wine. The Nuragus is also an excellent companion to raw fish, mussels and especially oysters.
