Description

Prosecco Frizzante Green Label Spago DOC / Cantine Riondo / Veneto

Container of 6 bottles

Frizzante from Italy

Amidst the enchanting landscape of the Soave region, nestled between Verona and Venice, stands Cantine Riondo. Established in 2008 as a cooperative of vintners, it swiftly ascended to become one of the premier wine producers in Veneto. Despite its apparent complexity, the company's organizational structure boasts remarkable simplicity: Over two thousand winemakers tend to and nurture proud 6000 hectares of vineyards across the provinces of Verona, Vicenza, and Padua. Together, they deliver their exquisite grapes to five meticulously chosen wineries, where they are crafted into precious wines.

Since ancient times, Prosecco has enjoyed considerable popularity, especially among Roman connoisseurs who affectionately referred to it as "Vinum Pucinum." It predominantly originated from the lands north of the present-day city of Trieste. Its current name owes itself to the picturesque village of Prosecco, which was once part of the municipality of Trieste. Interestingly, its name has nothing to do with the Italian adjective "secco" (dry) but rather derives from the Slavic term "proseku," describing a cleared area.

Until the end of 2009, "Prosecco" was the name of a splendid white grape variety, now known as "Glera." It thrives exclusively in the picturesque landscapes of Northeastern Italy, specifically in a modest region of the province of Treviso in Veneto. With the decree of the Italian Minister of Agriculture on January 1, 2010, "Prosecco" officially gained the status of a protected designation of origin, emphasizing its exceptional quality and uniqueness.

After the careful harvest in the early weeks of September, the grapes undergo a gentle cold maceration, followed by an initial fermentation at a carefully controlled temperature of 16 degrees Celsius. They then linger for a while for secondary fermentation in special pressure-resistant containers, known as autoclaves. It is here that the enchanting pearls are formed, lending this wine its unique elegance.

The Riondo Prosecco Frizzante Green Label DOC is a lavish wine, distinguished by its fruity liveliness and elegant slimness. Its outstanding floral aromas captivate the senses, while the persistent effervescence and clean, delicate finish offer a true delight. This crystal-clear Frizzante boasts a perfect body and balanced weight that pleases every palate. Its radiant straw-yellow hue unfolds flavors of blossoms, apples, and pears on the tongue, whisking the connoisseur away into a world full of taste and finesse.

At an ideal serving temperature of 6 to 8 degrees Celsius, this splendid Riondo Prosecco Frizzante reveals its full splendour and is perfect as a refreshing aperitif. It pairs equally well with rice or vegetable dishes, adding a special sparkle to any festive occasion. The accolades from numerous esteemed wine critics underscore its exceptional quality, making it an indispensable companion for moments of indulgence.

Grape variety

Grape GLERA (PROSECCO)

The Glera grape, a traditional variety of the Veneto region, is primarily used in the production of Prosecco. Its origins stretch deep into the history of the northeastern Italian region of Veneto. For centuries, it thrived on the gentle slopes around Treviso and Conegliano. While the exact origin story of Glera is not fully documented, it is believed to have its roots in this region, long renowned for its excellent wines. Originally, the grape variety was called Prosecco, named after the village of the same name in the area. However, in the 2000s, it was decided to officially rename it Glera. This was done to avoid confusion and to reserve the name Prosecco for the protected designation of origin of the wine. Historically, Prosecco was produced as a still wine. However, with the introduction of the Charmat method in the early 20th century, the production of sparkling wines began. In this method, the second fermentation takes place in a pressure tank to capture carbon dioxide and carbonate the wine. The leaves of the Glera plant are medium-sized, round, and of a shiny green colour. The grapes are typically large and have a conical shape. Loosely arranged, they are well-ventilated and therefore less susceptible to diseases. Mostly yellow green in colour, the berries have a juicy, sweet taste with subtle aromas. The Glera plant thrives in moderate climatic conditions with warm summers and mild winters. An ideal climate and optimal soils with good drainage are typically found in the hills of Veneto. Winemakers use traditional cultivation techniques to preserve the quality of Glera grapes. Vineyards are lovingly tended, and the grapes are harvested by hand to select only the best. Prosecco has since become a globally esteemed sparkling wine. It is enjoyed in many countries and is known for its fresh, fruity character as well as its excellent value for money.
