Description

“Tenuta Giuliano” Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC BIO 2021 / Collefrisio / Abruzzo
Red wine from Italy

The Collefrisio winery is based in the picturesque town of Frisa, southwest of the port city of Pescara. Here, between the gentle coast of the Adriatic Sea and the steep slopes of the Majella National Park in southern Abruzzo, the vine plant finds a perfect habitat. The presence of the Majella and the sea positively influence the pedoclimatic environment and determine the ideal microclimate for the maturation of different grape varieties. The owners Amedeo De Luca and Antonio Patricelli are totally dedicated to the production of quality wines. They want to offer the market products with high added value, produced organically and without using products of animal origin in the production process. Collefrisio's wines aim for a contemporary taste that demands freshness and depth without giving up the pleasure of sharing and speaks many different languages.

The Montepulciano grape variety is a red grape variety grown mainly in Italy, specifically in the regions of Abruzzo, Marche, Molise, and Puglia. The Montepulciano grapes have a thick skin and are rich in tannins, which gives them a high density of colour and a strong taste. Typical aromas are dark fruits, such as black cherries and blackberries, as well as spicy notes and a certain minerality. Montepulciano wines are often full-bodied and powerful, with high levels of tannins and good acidity. They are ready to drink early but can also be stored for a few years to reach their full potential. Overall, the Montepulciano grape variety is an important component of the Italian wine world, offering a variety of flavour profiles for wine lovers around the world.

The 15-hectare Tenuta Giuliano vineyard is found between the towns of Tollo and Giuliano Teatino, towards the Majella massif. Here the vines, the soil, and the climate form a harmonious whole and an excellent foundation for the cultivation of the Montepulciano grape for the "Tenuta Giuliano" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC. The gritty soil, the constant winds and the temperature fluctuations between day and night allow for a wonderful harvest that takes place in the last week of October. After the grapes have been destemmed and crushed, they are gently pressed. Traditionally, the skins of the fruit are then in contact with the liquid of the wine for about 15 to 20 days before it is aged in stainless steel tanks and partly in wooden barrels.

In the glass, the "Tenuta Giuliano" Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC appears with a classic ruby red. This wonderful red wine is intense and fruity on the nose with notes of ripe dark berries such as black cherries, blackberries, and currants. Aromas of plums, spices, tobacco, and a slightly smoky note appear in the background. On the palate, the tannins are dry but not overpowering. Its acidity is balanced and leads into a spicy finish accompanied by a pleasant bitter note.

At a recommended drinking temperature of around 16 to 18°C, this Montepulciano d'Abruzzo goes well with grilled meat, game, braised meat, and hearty stews. It also pairs well with cheese and can be served with aged Parmesan or Pecorino. At the end of a meal, Collefrisio's Montepulciano can also serve as an accompaniment to dark chocolate or a rich chocolate dessert.

Grape variety

MONTEPULCIANO

MONTEPULCIANO is a red grape variety. The Montepulciano grapes have a thick skin and are rich in tannins, which gives them a high density of colour and a strong taste. The wines made from the grapes of this grape variety are intensely coloured, down-to-earth to finely spicy and strong to high in alcohol. Although they can be stored well, they also taste very good when young.

BEWARE OF CONFUSION!!!

The grape variety Montepulciano, which is only grown in Abruzzo has nothing to do with the Tuscan town of Montepulciano. The wine grown here, while also delicious, is made from a Sangiovese grape.
