They work in harmony with nature, employing sustainable cultivation methods to protect the environment. Generations of winemaking families practise integrated viticulture to ensure natural products. A dedicated team of oenologists and agronomists supports the vintners throughout the entire lifecycle of the wines – from the vine to the harvest and bottling. The latest techniques and production facilities are utilised to preserve tradition while ensuring quality.
The Teroldego is an autochthonous red wine from the north of Italy. The grape variety has been cultivated since the 14th century in the Rotaliana Plain and was first mentioned in documents in 1383. It is a late maturing variety that produces fruity and dark red wines with low tannin expression.
The Teroldego Rotaliano is the most renowned red wine of Trentino, which is why it is called the “Prince of Trentino wines”. The vines for the Mezzacorona Teroldego Rotaliano Riserva DOC grow in the Rotaliana plain in Trentino, especially in the "Fron", "Rauti", "Catorzi" and "Sottodossi" locations. After the harvest, the grapes are pressed, destemmed and the seeds are removed as far as possible. Mashing in takes place with frequent pumping over. Fermentation takes place in a controlled manner for around 12 to 13 days at a temperature of around 25°C. The wine then matures for at least 24 months, 12 of which in valuable oak barrels (Allier and Troncais). Finally, this top wine develops in the bottle.
In the glass, the Teroldego Rotaliano Riserva DOC appears ruby red and exudes a typical bouquet of ripe fruit with pleasant hints of blueberries, plums, and red currants, accompanied by spicy notes that arise from aging in wooden barrels. Full-bodied, complete, and harmonious on the palate. Its pleasant tannins support the wonderful overall impression.
This Welschtiroler red wine is truly one of great character. When served at the recommended temperature of around 16 to 18 degrees Celsius, it reveals its full splendour and pairs excellently with a variety of dishes. The Teroldego Rotaliano Riserva particularly complements meat dishes. Grilled or roasted red meats such as beef, lamb, or game are wonderfully enhanced by the wine's robust tannins and intense flavours. Slow-cooked dishes like roast beef or braised lamb benefit from the deep fruitiness and structure of the Teroldego, balancing the strong flavours and texture of the meat. Game dishes, such as venison, wild boar, or partridge, are also an excellent choice, as the wine's bold flavours pair well with the intense, earthy notes of game. However, it is not just meat dishes that pair well with this wine. Rich pasta dishes with meat sauces, such as Ragù alla Bolognese or pasta with wild game ragout, harmonise beautifully with the Teroldego Rotaliano from Mezzacorona. A creamy risotto with mushrooms, truffles, or wild boar ragout also makes a perfect match, as the earthy and umami-rich flavours of the risotto complement the wine's deep, fruity notes. Cheese lovers will also appreciate this wine. Mature hard cheeses like Parmesan, Pecorino, or Grana Padano pair well with the Teroldego Rotaliano Riserva. The strong flavours and salty notes of the cheese are balanced by the wine's fruitiness and tannins. Likewise, robust blue cheeses such as Gorgonzola or Roquefort can be an interesting combination with the wine, especially when served with nuts and honey. Other suitable dishes include sautéed or grilled mushrooms, whose earthy aromas pair well with the wine's complex flavours. Rich stews and casseroles, particularly those with meat and vegetables, also harmonise beautifully with this characterful red wine.

Grape variety
TEROLDEGO
Teroldego is a red grape variety primarily grown in the Trentino region of northern Italy. As an indigenous variety of this region, it is renowned for its deep colours, robust aromas, and versatile wines. The name "Teroldego" may derive from the dialect word "Tiroldigo" or "Tiroldegho," referring to Tyrol, or from the Italian word "Terra" (earth), indicating the soil characteristics. It is believed that Teroldego was introduced to Trentino as early as the Middle Ages. The proximity and trade relations between Tyrol and Trentino could have contributed to the spread of this grape variety. With advancing viticulture techniques and improved grape care, the quality of Teroldego wine has continuously improved. Winemakers in Trentino selected the best clones and cultivation methods to bring out the optimal characteristics of the grape. In 1971, Teroldego Rotaliano was awarded DOC status, officially recognising its quality and origin, thereby strengthening its market position. Teroldego vines are vigorous with strong shoots, robust and adaptable, making them suitable for various soil and climate conditions. Their leaves are medium to large, typically five-lobed and dark green. The clusters are large, cylindrical, and densely packed with berries. The berries are medium-sized, round to oval, with a thick, dark violet to nearly black skin, providing good protection against diseases. The flesh is juicy and fruity with balanced acidity. The harvest period is typically from late summer to early autumn, often in September, depending on the climatic conditions and the desired ripeness of the grapes. A Teroldego Rotaliano DOC differs from a "regular" Teroldego by adhering to stricter cultivation and vinification regulations to ensure quality and highlight the wine's characteristic features. Overall, the Teroldego grape variety has a long history closely tied to Trentino's winemaking tradition. Its development reflects adaptation to local conditions and a continuous effort to improve quality. Today, Teroldego is considered one of Italy's most important indigenous grape varieties and is gaining popularity worldwide.
