Description

"Zeresimo" Vino Rosso 2020 / Fosso Corno / Abruzzo

Red wine from Italy

The Fosso Corno winery extends over thirty hectares in a single area on a hill near Roseto degli Abruzzi in the central Italian province of Teramo between the port cities of Ancona and Pescara. Standing in the vineyard, one can admire the beautiful Adriatic Sea to the east, while the imposing Gran Sasso massif rises from the hilly landscape to the west. This area, famous for its wines, is characterized by a unique natural location that is almost perfect for viticulture. The growing interest in Montepulciano wine in the nineties of the twentieth century prompted the Biscardo family to buy the Fosso Corno winery in 2001. Since then, the family has endeavoured to produce a very high-quality wine, which means that great efforts are required in the care of the vineyards and the careful use of agronomic experiments.

The Montepulciano is a red grape variety. The wines produced from the grapes of this variety are colourful, down-to-earth to finely spicy and strong to high in alcohol. Although they can be stored well, they also taste very good when young. The red grape variety Merlot probably comes from France. It is an early maturing variety that produces fruity, full-bodied, and full-bodied wines. The grapes are harvested at different times and vinified separately depending on the grape variety. The Merlot grapes are harvested in the first decade of September, after being slightly dried on the vine, while the Montepulciano grapes are harvested and freshly pressed at the end of September. The two wines are then blended and stored for twelve months in 500-litre tonneaux barrels. After that, the Zeresimo is stored in stainless steel for another six months and then in bottles.

With the Zeresimo from Fosso Corno, a dark ruby red "Super Abruzzo" wine is created from the two grape varieties Montepulciano and Merlot, which wants to prove that a super wine can be created from the combination of Montepulciano (great structure) and Merlot (elegance and finesse). Its bouquet is fruity, reminiscent of pomegranate with grassy notes. The taste of this unique red wine is soft, velvety, dry, spicy, well-balanced, and long-lasting. Overall, an elegant and dense drop.

At an optimal drinking temperature of around 18°C, the "Zeresimo" Vino Rosso from Fosso Corno is an excellent accompaniment to pasta dishes with meat sauces and classic lasagne. Also very good with boiled and roasted meat, roasts and spicy cheeses.
